Intimate Partner Violence, Part 2 Intersection of IPV & Co-Occurring Conditions: PTSD/TBI/SUD/Depression

Mil Resource Radio with Linda Kreter and co-host Jason McNamara presents:

Intimate Partner Violence, Part 2
Intersection of IPV & Co-Occurring Conditions: PTSD/TBI/SUD/Depression

Glenna and April

For this second discussion about Intimate Partner Violence, we focus on the intersection of a co-occurring condition such as PTSD, TBI, Substance Abuse, and Depression — and IPV. We welcome back previous guest Glenna Tinney, DCSW, a retired U.S. Navy Captain and now a consultant and SME on violence against women, and previously the Military/Veteran staff member of the Battered Women’s Justice Project. She regularly speaks, writes, and presents on the complexities of Intimate Partner Violence in the military community.

April Gerlock, psychiatric nurse practitioner also specializes in IPV and co-occurring conditions. The complex nature of PTSD, TBI, depression, and substance abuse and IPV means good treatment with a comprehensive offender assessment to peel back the differing conditions and symptoms. Both women are collaborative colleagues and experts, able to build upon each other’s expertise to clarify that the volatility in such relationships must be treated seriously, and that leaving an IPV situation may cause escalation before improvement. Recommended IPV resources are the National Domestic Hotline: 1-800-799-7233 or www.thehotline.org, and www.bwjp.org. with local agencies to provide greater understanding of victim resources, and offender resolutions.
